Janet Sjaarda Sheeres was born in the Netherlands and at age ten immigrated with her family to Canada.  After her marriage to Gerrit W.Sheeres, a (now retired) Christian Reformed pastor, she moved to the United States, where together they served churches in Michigan and Washington State.  She is a mother of four, grandmother of six, and an avid amateur family and Dutch American immigration historian. Currently she is president of AADAS (Association for the Advancement of Dutch American Studies), chair of the Christian Reformed Church Historical Committee, and Associate Editor of Origins, the historical magazine of Calvin College’s Heritage Hall Archives. She volunteers one day a week at the Archives and has taught genealogy classes for CALL ( Calvin College Academy for Lifelong Learning), with a special emphasis on Dutch genealogy.
